Swine Flu: 1 / Flu Flu: 63,730

We live in a world of sensationalized news.  24 hour news networks have lots of time to kill and it’s becoming harder to gain the attention of eligible viewers.  Take the infamous “swine flu” which no doubt will live a lasting legacy with the bird flu, SARS, hoof in mouth (what a great name), etc, etc.  The swine flu that has killed one person, and the real flu 63K annually.  Why is this really on the news all daylong?  I was walking around the airport yesterday and looked at a real idiotic looking guy with a surgical mask on.  I had to ask… yup fear of bacon lung.

What really got me though were the comparisons to the pandemic of the plague in 1918.  Are we kidding?  People though it was a good idea to drain your blood when you felt sick in 1918, now we can swap out a heart and have you walking in 3 days.  It’s just ridiculous what people believe supported by the idiots that dish it out on a daily basis.  Enough with my disgust and onto my point; people will believe anything good or bad as long as it’s written or spoken.

When you begin to develop a business with any sort of online reputation, you need to be overly concerned with the content that references you.  Rumors on the internet spread faster than the swine flu and do far more damage.  The popular site www.snopes.com has been the online version of myth busters disproving or fact checking plenty of old wives tales, but an increasingly large number of internet rumors. Be sure you are ahead of the search engines and be sure you are protecting your CHEESE.
